Structure gives freedom somewhere to land.

Most men think of transition from work as freedom.

They also know it will mean more free time.

Those two things sound compatible.

They aren’t.

The shock comes when freedom arrives and free time turns into endless, polite, shapeless time.

Nothing is nudging you anymore.

No deadline.

No one waiting.

No mild panic at 6:42am.

At first, it feels incredible.

You earned this.

You dreamed about this.

You may even have had it as a screensaver at one point.

Then the honeymoon ends.

Not dramatically.

No sirens.

No collapse.

Just a slow, confusing sense that the days are… meandering.
